Hi fellow picklers looking for fun and socialization with our club. Excited to announce an amazing activity day opportunity.
Thanks to Jane and Mark for proposing and leading this fantastic day!
GTPC Board

Who: GTPC Members and Partners Outdoor Activity Day
Where: Devil’s Glen Country Club
Highway 124, Glen Huron, ON
Date: Thursday, February 15th
Time: Lifts open @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm for downhill skiers
Trails are open from 9:00 am for hikers/ snow shoe participants
HOSTS: Jane Fleetwood-Morrow and Mark Hord

How to sign up?
Send Mark an email at Christielake1(miuku)gmail(piste)com indicating the names of participants for either downhill skiing or hiking/snowshoeing for both you and your partner. The cost to each individual is $60 for skiing and $10 for using the hiking trails and the lodge.

The deadline to sign up is Friday, February 2nd.

Guests may arrive anytime on the 15th of February (from 8:30 am onwards) and the lifts open @ 9:00 am. Buy your lift tickets ($60 each) at the ticket booth. Give them your name(s) and tell them you are part of the GTPC Group. You may pay by cash or credit card only. Hikers/Snow shoe participants must also check in at the ticket booth and pay $10/participant to use the lodge and trails.

The Lodge: Has changerooms and washrooms downstairs. There are large cubbies there to store your personal bags. Please make sure you keep your valuables with you. No boot bags, skis or equipment is allowed indoors other than ski boots. Upstairs has three levels and a fully serviced (excellent) kitchen with breakfast items (until 10:30 am) and lunch items from 11:00 am onwards. They accept both cash and credit cards for purchases. You are welcome to “brown bag” it as well, if you are so inclined. You may store your lunch bags on the outdoor shelves at the side of the lodge by the ticket window.

9:00 am lifts open

10:00 am – Downhill skiers meet Jane and Mark at the base of the main chairlift if you’d like to ski together, otherwise, enjoy the slopes. The easiest runs are to your far right as you get off the chair – there is a large hill map at the top of the hill as well as outside the lodge. The easiest runs include Revelation, Salvation, Paradise, Achilles and River Styx. All the blues and blacks can be viewed as you go up the main chair. They include Limbo, Inferno, Waterfall, Cerberus and Stairway from right to left – the names seem quite appropriate for the runs!

11:00 am: For those hiking or snow shoeing and wishing to go as a group, meet at the base of the main chair. Please make sure you have signed in and paid your $10 usage fee. The lower loop takes you to Glen Huron (easy trail) and back along the Mad River. It is very scenic. This “down and back” is an easy walk/hike. Cross country skis are not advised as there are some uphill and downhill sections. The loop takes about an hour.
12:15- 12:30 pm: Meet fellow GTPC members in the upper section of the main lodge for lunch. There are a bunch of picnic tables in this area and you’ll see some signs on the table indicating GTPC. These are reserved seats for our group.

1:30 pm: For those wishing a more challenging hike/snowshoe, join us for a 12 km “Switchback” loop that takes us up the escarpment beside Revelation and Salvation, across the top of the escarpment and connects with the Bruce Trail. Views are spectacular from the top of this loop by our main chairlift facing Collingwood and Wasaga Beach. The downhill section of the hike winds its way into Glen Huron and we follow the Mad River back to the main lodge. This is a moderate/advanced hike and takes 1.5 – 2 hours. If you skied in the morning and decided to hike in the afternoon, there is no additional usage fee.

3:00 pm: Join fellow GTPC members for a beverage of choice as we reminisce about our day either at the bar, by the fire or in our dedicated seating section. The bar is open until 5 pm.

So, in summary, the deadline for signing up for this fun GTPC outdoor adventure day is Friday February 2nd. We look forward to seeing as many of our friends at Devil’s Glen on Thursday, February 15th.
